Thami è un venditore di antenne satellitari che un tempo aveva lavorato come comparsa. Nel 1966 a Ouarzazate aveva conosciuto il grande Pier Paolo Pasolini sul set dell’Edipo re. Quarant’anni dopo, una produzione italiana torna a Ouarzazate per preparare le riprese di un film biblico. Thami è convinto che Pasolini sia tornato in città, scatenando la febbre del cinema nell’intero paese.
Thami is a satellite dish salesman and a former extra. He befriended the great director Pier Paolo Pasolini during the shooting of Oedipus Rex in Ouarzazate in 1966. Forty years later, an Italian crew comes back to Ouarzazate to prepare the shooting of a film about the Bible. Thami is convinced that his friend Pasolini is back in town, thus triggering cinema fever in the whole village.
Nato a Marrakech nel 1953, Daoud Aoulad-Syad studia in Francia dove si laurea in Fisica nel 1981. Inizia la carriera come fotografo, esponendo in tutto il mondo. Debutta dietro la macchina da presa nel 1989 con K. Ricature e Paris 13/7/89, entrambi diretti all’interno del workshop della Fémis. Dopo il documentario Mémoire ocre (1991) e il corto Entre l’absence et l’oubli (1993), nel 1998 realizza il primo lungometraggio Adieu, forain, che ottiene premi ai festival di Casablanca e Montpellier. In seguito gira Le cheval de vent, presentato a San Sebastián nel 2003; Tarfaya, in concorso a San Sebastián nel 2004; Fi intidar Pasolini, miglior film arabo al Festival del Cairo nel 2007. Nel 2010 realizza A Jamaâ, menzione speciale a San Sebastián. Nel 2012 dirige per la televisione Zmane Kenza e Sebate: The Shoe.
Daoud Aoulad-Syad was born in Marrakech in 1953. He studied in France, where he obtained his Doctors in Physics in 1981. As a photographer, he has several exhibitions to his name. He went into film-making in 1989 with K. Ricature and Paris 13/7/89, directed within the framework of Fémis cinema workshop. After the documentary Mémoire ocre (1991) and the short film Entre l’absence et l’oubli (1993), he made in 1998 his first fiction film, Adieu, forain, winner of prizes in Casablanca and Montpellier. The movie was followed by Le cheval de vent, presented at San Sebastián in 2003; Tarfaya, selected for the Official Competition in San Sebastián in 2004; and Waiting for Pasolini, Best Arabic Film at the Cairo Festival in 2007. In 2010 he directed The Mosque, premiered at San Sebastián, in 2012 the TV movies Zmane Kenza and Sebate: The Shoe.
